Lingerie + Outfits for Your Saint Louis Boudoir Session

First, listen to me. Are you listening? Wear. Whatever. You. Want. I don’t like to put rules on my clients’ outfits, because all that matters is that you feel beautiful. I know some photographers insist on no bright colors, no busy patterns, or only certain styles for certain body types. But after over six years of boudoir photography, I can honestly say I’ve never seen a photo look less beautiful because of what a client was wearing. If you’re feeling confident, it shows in your photos, and that’s what boudoir sessions are all about. It also doesn’t matter if you bring three wildly different outfits or three black lace teddies. You are hiring a boudoir photographer, they are not hiring you for a model call. Wear. Whatever. You. Want.

Now, if someone was really twisting my arm to give advice on outfits, I’d say go for variety. If your boudoir photography package includes three outfits, you could bring:

  • something sheer or lacy for a romantic look (think: bra + panty sets, bodysuits, corsets, teddies)
  • a bold and sexy statement piece (maybe a strappy set or even leather)
  • something cozy and casual-but-sexy (like an oversized sweater, button-down shirt, or jersey).

color?

Doesn’t matter, just choose what you feel great in. If we’re still pretending my arm is being twisted, I’d say one black, one light and bright (white, ivory, or pastels), and the third something colorful (jewel tones look incredible—especially red, emerald, purple, and cobalt blue). If you’re not sure, ask your loved ones what colors you look best in!

shoes + jewelry?

Totally up to you and your style—it’s all about what makes you feel amazing. Most of my clients are barefoot through their entire session, but plenty still bring a pair of shoes to have in a few shots—especially brides. What a sweet, personal touch to include the shoes you’ll be wearing on your wedding day!

What should you Wear to Your Boudoir Photography Session?

Don’t forget a cozy, loose outfit for before and after your shoot! This helps avoid red marks on your skin—skip tight bras, socks, and pants if you can.
